Clay County remains committed to its responsibility to the audit as well as its responsibility to holding the Missouri Auditor accountable throughout this process, which is a position validated by recent ethical concerns raised by the Missouri House of Representatives Budget Committee and the Attorney General’s Office. It is important that this audit be impartial and lawfully guided, and the County believes certain requests from her office violate both of those standards. Given these recent developments, the County feels it's all the more important to protect the privileged materials, sensitive personnel documents and other information that falls outside the scope of the Auditor's constitutional authority.
