Clay County is pleased to announce a groundbreaking ceremony held in coordination with the
City of Smithville for a state‐of‐the‐art dog park to be located at Smithville Lake. The event will
take place at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 14, at the corner of Litton Way and Old Jefferson
Highway or the Little Platte South Trail Access, 17325 Old Jefferson Highway, Smithville, MO
64089.

The public and media are invited to attend, but Clay County asks attendees to practice social
distancing and observe other public health guidelines.

This much‐anticipated amenity has been made possible through partnerships with the city of
Smithville, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Smithville Park Advisory Board, the Clay
County Park Advisory Board and a group of citizen activists. Clay County elected officials and
administrators will be on hand to discuss the project and perform a ceremonial ribbon‐cutting.
Notably, the three Clay County commissioners have supported the process of approving and
advancing the dog park project, and they look forward to seeing it completed.
