Mt. Gilead Monday: The Underground Railroad

9780679874720_xlg.jpgLearn about slaves’ escape to freedom through the underground railroad. Make your own freedom quilt. The Missouri Humanities Council will provide each student with a copy of Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt , by Deborah Hopkinson.

Mt. Gilead Mondays is a program for homeschool students, and students in school systems that have shortened their week to exclude Mondays. 

  • Location: Historic Mt. Gilead School, 15918 Plattsburg Rd., Kearney, MO
  • Date: March 23rd, 2015
  • Time: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
  • Cost: $10 per student for each day (If adults wish to attend, they will be charged admission.)
  • Age range: students in 1st through 8th grades 
  • Maximum attendance is 25 (including any adults). Call the Jesse James Farm at (816) 736-8500 to sign up. 
  • Students will bring their own sack lunch. 
  • Parents are responsible for transportation.

Every Mt. Gilead Monday will have its own history-related theme, include historic interpretation of the theme, craft project, and activities related to that theme.
