Civil War Speaker Series: Slave Quilts

quilt 3.jpgKathy Freshwater will speak about the meaning behind slave quilt motifs and how these patterns lead slaves to freedom during the Civil War. Kathy will discuss the quilt codes, the controversy surrounding their meaning, share her experiences as a quilt researcher and show quilts from her personal collection as examples.

The speaker’s event is free. Regular admission fees apply for James Farm tours.

If you wish to tour the museum and historic home, it is recommended that you plan to do so before the presentation as the tour takes about an hour and a half.
