1. What types of projects require a building permit?

• Retaining walls over 4 foot tall
• Fences over 6 foot tall
• New buildings over 120 square foot
• New footings and piers
• Any structural components being removed, replaced, or newly installed
• New plumbing or electrical
• New generators
• Solar installations
• Pools

2. Why is a site approval from Clay County Public Health Center required for my project?

Anytime a structure is placed in the ground the Clay County Public Health Center will verify that the building will not interfere with the septic system.

3. What if my property is connected to a private sewer system:

Contact the Planning & Zoning office to determine if a site approval is required.

4. How long does it take for a permit application to be reviewed?

Initial review typically takes seven to ten business days but can vary based on the number pf permits submitted.  To help expedite the permitting process applicants are encouraged to submit all required documents with the initial submittal.
