If you are a new Missouri resident or haven't owned a vehicle in more than a year you may be entitled to a waiver. You will need to bring to the office your title, application for title, or out-of-state registration. We will review your paperwork and issue the waiver at that time with minimal waiting.
If you have been a Clay County resident and owned a vehicle but didn't receive a tax bill it's possible you weren't assessed and need to be. You can call our office at 816-407-3520 to check if you've been assessed before driving to one of our locations. If you have not, you will need to come into one of our locations to fill out the assessment paperwork and have a tax bill generated.
If you need to tag a vehicle that isn't on your tax receipt and you did own it on January 1st of the previous year, you will need to come into one of our locations to have it added to your tax bill. If you purchased the vehicle after January 1st of the previous year, it will not need to be on your tax receipt. You are only taxed on the property you owned on January 1st of each year.
All County Assessors in Missouri are required to value real estate property in the county as of January 1st of each odd-numbered year.
If the assessed value of your property increases, a Change-of-Value Notice will be mailed to you.
